The ScanFolderToEmail apps needs to be run at fixed interval if you want an automated setup.
To schedule a task in windows XP, you have to follow those steps :
- Go to Start / Control Panel
- Select the Schedule task icon
- double click on Add Scheduled Task
- Then click next
- Select the task that you want to run or browse to the app (you can browse to where you have saved ScanFolderToEmail )
- Enter a meaningful name, it is better when you have several tasks. Here you can select the standard settings (daily, weekly, etc.). It covers most of the needs of the user, however, we want a specific setup, so pick daily to start with.
- Select the time and date at which the task will start to run (you can set this up 15 minutes later so that we have time to configure everything as we want.
- If you are part of a domain (at work generally), enter DOMAIN\USERNAME otherwise, just your username. Enter the username and password of the account that will run that task, check that this account has the right to launch that task !!
- Now that the basic setup is done, we can move on the advanced tab (do not forget to tick the box!). Then press finish
- The first tab indicates which program you want to run and you can choose to run that task only if you are connected (can be useful if you want to receive and/or send automated emails only when you are connected, be careful, If you do not connect, you’ll receive nothing …)
- The second tab let you configure exactly how you want the task to run when you lick on advanced
- Here is the most interesting part of the scheduled task, the ability to repeat the task
The above setup indicates that the task will run every 10 minutes for one hour. If you want a task to run every 10 minutes 24/7, you have to enter 23 hours 59 minutes in the duration. so the task will repeat daily for 23 hours 59 minutes and every 10 minutes. Press OK to finish.
- The third tab contains useful features like removing the task if it is a one-off thing, or stop the task if it last more than 72 hours in that case, or do it only when the computer is not in use (can be useful for defragmentation purpose or antivirus scanning). You can also select to run a task only if not on battery (useful for notebook).
- The last tab security is more for domain users who wants to prevent other user to have access to that scheduled task, ie an administrator can setup some rules on the computer and do not want users to modify it.
Hope it helps, and let me know if you have any comment or critics by sending me an email at webmaster(at)benbong(dot)com.
